I was getting between 55-65 fps in Red Dead 2 with every setting cranked to the maximum which seemed low so I finally kicked myself and decided to try to mess with my CPU some since it's clear it was the bottleneck. Chances are for gaming you'll be GPU limited anyway (assume you're going 1440 or better with that GPU) 5900 will be good for gaming on all but the highest of refresh rates over the 5800x3d and probably a lot better for multithreaded productivity apps. 5900x is purely and objectively better than 3900x. However I'd be more interested in comparison of online games at high refresh than a standard set of old and couple of new AAA game benchmarks. In fact, the stock cooler of the 3900X is good enough to the point where you can pair it with the 3900X and a B450 motherboard (a good one) and the total would come out to around $580.
